Assignment Branching Exercise Cardiac Case 1

For this Assignment, you will review the interactive media piece/branching exercise provided in the Learning Resources. As you examine the patient case, consider how you might assess and treat patients with the symptoms and conditions presented.

To prepare:

  • Review the interactive media piece/branching exercise provided in the Learning

Resources.

  • Reflect on the patient’s symptoms and aspects of disorders that may be present in the interactive media piece/branching exercise.
  • Consider how you might assess, perform diagnostic tests, and recommend medications to treat patients presenting with the symptoms in the interactive media piece/branching exercise.
  • You will be asked to develop a set of admission orders based on the patient in the branching exercise.

The Assignment

Using the Required Admission Orders Template, write a full set of admission orders for the patient in the branching exercise.

  • Be sure to address each aspect of the order template
  • Write the orders as you would in the patient’s chart
  • Make sure the order is complete and applicable to the patient
  • Any rationale you feel the need to supply should be done at the end of the order set – not included with the order
  • Please do not write per protocol. We do not know what your protocol is and you need to demonstrate what is the appropriate standard of care for this patient.
  • A minimum of three current, evidenced based references are required.

By Day 7 of Week 2

Submit your completed Assignment by Day 7 of Week 2 in Module 2.

Welcome to week 2! Great job on your discussion board! A

This week you will focus on EKG’s and diagnostic evaluation of arrhythmias. Please make sure you review the learning resources and the cardiac case. You will need to write admission orders for the patient in your branching exercise. Here is the information for your patient:

63 year old female, 5’5 and weighs 72 kg

Code Status: Full Code

PMH: HTN, Asthma

Home Meds: Losartan 50 mg PO Daily, Albuterol QID PRN shortness of breath

Ax: Lisinopril

A few things for writing admission orders…be as specific as possible. Specify what kind of diet and activity level. When you are writing the nursing orders…make sure it is clear for the nurse. Don’t write..”call provider if abnormal” you need to define what abnormal is and write out parameters for vital signs (ex: notify provider for SBP less than 90).

This is what you will need to do in your practice.

Try not to leave any room for interpretation on your orders. Make sure you address I/O’s, IV access, fall precautions. Make sure you explain labs and diagnostics for your patient. Don’t just order everything you can think of, really critically think what is going on with the patient and order what is necessary.

Make sure you follow the rubric and use a minimum of 3 evidence-based references within the last 5 years. Your assignment is due on day 7 ( Monday, March 15 @ 0159 est).

Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
