RA: Personal Development Plan
According to Brown (2013), most of us prepared hard for the future we expected, and yet when it comes to our work life, things are not working out as we planned. Our careers rarely move in a straight line, and most of us worry that the line may be erased altogether. Why does there seem to be a disconnection between what we thought would happen and what is actually going on?
There are five golden rules to help you accomplish your goals: 1.Set Goals that Motivate You. When you set goals for yourself, it is important that they motivate you: this means making sure that they are important to you, and that there is value in achieving them.
2.Set SMART Goals…Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Bound 3.Set Goals in Writing 4.Make an Action Plan 5.Stick With It! Tasks: Develop and write out at least 10 interview questions related to the beliefs, values, philosophies, leadership styles, and attitudes related to nursing.
Use the questions to interview a professional nurse with a BSN degree who could be a mentor to you and who will hold you accountable for helping you reach your goals. This mentor should exemplify the type of nurse you want to become. Write a 6- to 8-page interview report. Use appropriate headings within the body of your paper. In your report, include the following: •Identify and describe your career goals using the components of SMART and identify the importance of finding a nurse mentor.
(This assignment may be written in first person).
Identify and discuss one major nursing philosophy that most reflects your beliefs related to nursing practice and leadership.
Explain the nursing philosophies, beliefs, values, and attitudes that the potential nurse mentor demonstrates.
After conducting the interview, critically analyze whether or not the potential nurse mentor is compatible with your career goals, nursing philosophy, beliefs, values, and attitudes. If the potential nurse mentor’s career goals, nursing philosophy, beliefs, values, and attitudes are incompatible with yours, how will you go about seeking a new potential mentor (use SMART)?
Include your list of interview questions in the appendix of the paper.
