An applicant’s professional history and qualifications are outlined in a resume. A cover letter is a way for the applicant to make a professional introduction to the hiring manager and demonstrate an interest in the company.

Develop a current resume and create a formal cover letter for a position for which you would like to apply. Create both the cover letter and resume using a professionally accepted format provided on the Resume-Resources website, located in the Topic Materials.

Include the following:

  1. Resume: Detail your overall education, credentials, and professional experience, such as licenses, earned degrees, certifications, professional experiences, previous positions held, membership in professional organizations, publications, and skills.
  2. Write a one-page double spaced introductory cover letter in which you explain your professional objectives, professional interests, and strengths as an applicant.
  3. Prior to submission, share your resume with a colleague and obtain feedback. Revise your resume as needed

While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

I am excited to write this letter applying for the position of a nursing officer at your institution. My name is Patience Odonkor Ocansey. I am a registered nurse with more than 14 years of experience and am currently enrolled for a nursing degree. I have worked in all areas in the nursing profession, such as maternity, ICU, HDU, paramedicine, MCH & FP, emergency department, psychiatry, and many other departments. 

I have gained knowledge and skills in all departments. I have more experience in psychiatry nursing, where I have worked for more than six years and five years as a charge, as reflected in my resume. Your institution’s reputation precedes you. I have heard a lot about you from a former classmate working with the institution, and I am excited to work with you.

I am an enthusiastic nurse who has been working hard and gaining experience in all nursing fields. I have been a nurse for over fourteen years now, working as a junior nurse and charge nurse.  I plan to join your hospital and bring my skills to the pool of professionals. From your company statistics, there are more nurses and other healthcare providers at the institution and a busier workplace environment conducive to skill polishing and professional development.

I also intend to offer my services to a bigger population as I advance in nursing education to take up more prominent roles in nursing practice. I intend to join an institution from which I can learn as I also contribute to the fund of knowledge.

I love research and have participated in many research studies which have contributed to current best practices. I have a lot of knowledge and skills in psychiatry nursing, and I love researching this area. My clients and supervisors are happy with and appreciate my work by awarding me the best nurse in 2019. 

I aspire to enhance my skills and knowledge and later pursue MSN as a Psychiatric/mental health clinical nurse specialist. Psychiatry nursing is an area of interest, and your institution has a well elaborate department and a better healthcare system in psychiatry. In addition, I am well versed with current technology such as social media marketing and blogging which is integral in connecting the institution to society. I also head two saccos and two local groups. I was also appointed the pioneer of cultural diversity at my hospital and have worked in culturing culturally diverse relationships in the workplace. I shall be an added advantage to the company as I bring my skills to the pool and learn from the institution.
