Robbins organizational model has three different components that include centralization , complexity , and formalization . Centralization refers to the degree by which decision making is done by a single point in an organization . Top managers in this type of organization make all the decisions and lower – level managers carry out the needed orders that support those decisions . The role of technology in this organizational model would be related to effective and quick electronic communication Communication between top managers and to all down line managers , needs to be delivered quickly and accurately .

Complexity is the degree of heterogeneity and concentration among environmental elements , and they are complex and diverse. Complexity organizations also divide labor, personal activities , and employee training activities ( Robbins & Judge , 2016) The role of technology here would be the use of various machines to support an organization ‘s complex production.

For example , an oil company would need to invest in top of the line technology to be able to produce their product in a quick and efficient manner . Formalization is the degree by which jobs are standardized within an organization and refers to the extent in which an employee ‘s role is defined through formal documentation . For example , when there’s a job that is highly formalized the employee has little to no autonomy versus a low formalization job , where employees have full autonomy.

An example of technology would be an assembly line employees station where they complete their one assigned job over and over . Having this one job to complete ensures high levels of quality since they would complete the same task over and over.
